During the recent teachers’ industrial action in Uganda, while classrooms remained closed, Senior Women and Senior Men Teachers across Buliisa and beyond stepped forward as Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Champions — keeping girls engaged, safe, and emotionally supported when they were most at risk.
At Walukuba Primary School, Teacher Everce, a passionate Senior Woman Teacher, turned crisis into opportunity — using SEL sessions to help adolescent girls build self-awareness, resilience, and positive decision-making skills.
These community-based SEL circles became safe spaces where girls could share, learn, and stay connected — protecting them from early pregnancy, abuse, and loss of learning.
Every time a girl stays away from school, her vulnerability increases — but champions like Teacher Everce are changing that story!
Link, in partnership with dedicated people in Uganda, is proving that SEL = stronger girls, stronger communities.
As we look ahead, we are eager to scale transformative SEL approaches for girls — ensuring that no crisis ever interrupts their right to learn, grow, and thrive.
We invite partners to invest and collaborate with us in amplifying girls’ social-emotional resilience through community-rooted interventions that last beyond the classroom.
Because when girls feel seen, safe, and supported — they soar.
When Schools Fell Silent, Champions Rose!
