For years, school improvement in Uganda was seen as infrastructure-focused—until schools like Paraa Primary in Buliisa proved otherwise. Through Link Community Development Uganda’s School Performance Review, Paraa shifted focus to teaching and learning, leading to remarkable progress.
Headteacher Marriam prioritized classroom effectiveness, student retention, and parental engagement. One standout moment? A pregnant student, determined to succeed, gave birth just three days before exams and still sat for her papers—scoring an impressive 18 aggregates!
With targeted interventions like structured assessments, weekend study sessions, and strong leadership, Paraa became Buliisa’s best-performing school in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations. This is what data-driven, community-led school improvement can achieve!
