The Scottish Government RISE learning visit to Zambia in May 2026 marks an important moment for reflection, collaboration, and shared learning in advancing inclusive education. The visit will begin in Lusaka with a high-level engagement focused on strengthening partnerships and aligning efforts to ensure that children with disabilities, especially girls have access to safe, inclusive, and quality education. This engagement will provide a platform for RISE consortium partners and project stakeholders to exchange insights, highlight progress, and reaffirm our collective commitment to scaling impact.
The visit will then extend to Kabwe in Central Province, where participants will experience first-hand the transformative impact of the RISE project at community, school, and learner levels. The field visit will showcase how coordinated efforts are driving meaningful change for learners and their communities.
The visit will highlight achievements such as large-scale teacher training, learner screening, and the provision of assistive devices, all contributing to improved access, participation, and wellbeing for learners. The programme reflects strong collaboration between the Ministries of Education, Health, and Community Development, alongside organisations for persons with disabilities, schools and communities, to build more inclusive and supportive learning environments.
The field visit will include engagements at Mine Primary School and Kabwe Central Hospital, offering first-hand insights into how inclusive education approaches are being implemented in classrooms and supported through strengthened health and referral systems. Participants will observe inclusive teaching practices, engage with school leadership and frontline practitioners, and explore how coordinated assessment services and assistive technologies are improving outcomes for children. The visit also provides an opportunity to reflect on ongoing challenges and reaffirm collective commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, participate, and thrive.
This learning visit will not only celebrate achievements but also inspire the next steps needed to deepen and sustain inclusive education.
RISE is funded by the Scottish Government through Link Education International and is implemented by School-to-School Zambia, Chance for Childhood, and Link Community Development Malawi.
