How we work

Local leadership, decolonising global development and shifting the power

Our vision is a world where every child has the right to quality education.
Our mission is to inspire sustainable innovations in national education policy using grassroots approaches to improve accountability and learner outcomes.

Our working model

We are committed to sustainable, just and effective change. We know that local leadership and ownership are essential to achieve that.

Link Education consists of four partners – Link Community Development Malawi and Link Community Development Uganda, both independent organisations led by national Boards, and Link Education Ethiopia and Link Education International. Delivered by national teams through local structures, our model harnesses government and community resources for sustained and scalable impact.

Whilst we’ve always been proud of this working model, we know that there is still work to do. To further strengthen genuine equity across our partnerships we have:

  • Developed a global decision-making body that leads on strategy and execution across the Link partnership
  • Prioritised south-to-south learning, critical for the sharing of contextualised knowledge, experiences, and best practice
  • Where appropriate, relocated key strategic functions to the countries of delivery
  • Enhanced representation by colleagues from Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda at international conferences ensuring they have a voice at the table
  • Further embedded participant voice across all our programming from co-designing and monitoring to adapting and evaluating interventions.

We are working on:

  • Laying the groundwork to create a Global Board to guide strategic direction and benefit from diverse and relevant expertise
